The Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge, managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, includes more than 14,000 acres of beach, dunes, marsh, and maritime forest. Most of the refuge is located on the Virginia end of Assateague Island.

Assateague Island National Seashore spans both Maryland and Virginia coasts. The Toms Cove Visitor Center is located on the south side of Beach Road, prior to the beach parking areas. 

Kiptopeke State Park offers recreational access to the Chesapeake Bay and the chance to explore a unique coastal habitat featuring a major flyway for migratory birds. The park offers camping, swimming, trails, and nature and history programs, and fishing, boating and hunting opportunities.

Bay Creek Resort & Club is a residential golf and marina community on the Chesapeake Bay with two 18-hole courses – the 7,250-yard Arnold Palmer Signature Course™ and the 7,417-yard Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course™. Bay Creek is home to a world-class marina located in the protected harbor of King's Creek that provides deepwater access and serves as a perfect launching point for exploring the Intracoastal Waterway, the blue-green waters of the Chesapeake Bay and the open expanse of the Atlantic Ocean.

Eastern Shore Yacht and Country Club in Melfa, Virginia, offers golf, tennis, swimming, boating and sailing, and dining experiences for its members. 

Eastern Shore Family YMCA in Onley, Virginia, offers a youth gymnasium, 25-meter six-lane heated pool, whirlpool/sauna, group exercise center, FitQuest center with FitLinxx, fully equipped free weight area, full line of cardio equipment and interactive equipment for youth, ChildWatch Center, cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation center in partnership with Shore Health Services and AED/CPR/first-aid certified staff.

The Mid-Delmarva Family YMCA’s Lower Shore Branch is located in Pocomoke City, Maryland and offers more than 100 programs.  Programs include after school child care and summer day and youth camps, fitness classes and active older adult programs. The development of a new branch serving the Chincoteague, VA area called the Chincoteague Island Family Branch is being planned.

Eastern Shore Rural Health System, Inc. is a federally qualified community health center organization providing quality, affordable health care. ESRHS has five medical centers strategically located along the Shore from Chincoteague Island to Cape Charles. Hours of operation include late night hours at each of the five centers and Saturday hours year-round at Onley Community Health Center and seasonally at Chincoteague Island Community Health Center. Dental services for all ages are offered at the Franktown Community Health Center and for children at Metompkin and Pungoteague Elementary Schools.
